Smedley Preserve

The Smedley Preserve, formerly the Loch Nairn Golf Club, was purchased by the Township in January 2023 for use as a 105-acre passive-recreation preserve. Conversion of the land from a golf course to a preserve will help improve water quality, absorb floodwater, and offer additional environmental benefits. A network of mixed use trails will provide passive recreation opportunities.

The pedestrian walkways (former golf cart paths) are currently open to the public with limited parking off McCue Road.  The Township does not own any of the former club buildings or the associated parking lot. The buildings and parking lot are private property.

Please note that park rules & regulations are posted and enforceable. Dogs are welcome and must be on leash at all times.  Pick up after your pets before leaving the preserve - we don't have Poo Fairies on staff.

Preserve development will be executed in multiyear phases. Please take a moment to review the Preserve Master Plan and stay tuned for future updates!

UPDATE FOR 2025

Through a collaborative effort between New Garden Township, PennDOT and RES the Smedley Preserve Sediment Reduction MS4 project aims to reduce sediment pollution within the White Clay watershed, improving water quality and meeting regulatory compliance requirements. In addition to sediment removal and stream restoration, the project will also remove most of the manmade ponds, helping to restore natural habitats for local wildlife, promote biodiversity and support native species. Work will begin in summer 2025 and be completed late fall/early winter.
